UOB Preferred Visa

Every blog's default tap card, and the easiest 4 mpd in Singapore: pay with your phone, done. No minimum spend, no category guessing.

4mpd

on mobile contactless — tap your phone or watch

Capped at S$600/calendar monthPhone/watch tap only
Includes SimplyGo — your MRT and bus rides earn miles too.
4mpd

on selected online shopping, dining and groceries

Separate S$600/month cap
Shopee, Lazada, Amazon, Grab and friends.

Watch out for

  • Physical card taps don't earn the bonus — it has to be your phone or watch.
  • The cap is split: S$600/month for contactless and a separate S$600 for online. You can't shift between them.
  • UNI$ accrue per S$5 block — transactions under S$5 earn nothing at all.

Good picks when the top card doesn't fit how you spend.

HSBC Revolution card art

HSBC Revolution

A higher S$1,000 cap and it doubles as your online card — if you only want two cards total, this can be the tap one.

4mpd

on online and contactless spend in bonus categories

Capped at S$1,000/calendar month
Dining, shopping, travel booked direct, and transport. Permanent from April 2026.

Watch out for

  • The bonus is category-based — groceries and supermarkets are NOT on the list.
  • Fast food is excluded — and that catches some cafés and Grab food charges, not just McDonald's.

UOB Visa Signature

A bigger S$1,200 cap for heavy tappers — but only if you reliably clear S$1,000 every statement month.

4mpd

on local contactless, petrol and SimplyGo

Capped at S$1,200/statement monthMin S$1,000/statement month

Watch out for

  • Spend S$999 in a category and you earn 0.4 mpd on everything — the S$1,000 minimum is all or nothing.
  • The sweet spot is narrow: S$1,000 minimum to S$1,200 cap, per category, per statement month.

Frequently asked questions

Does Apple Pay or Google Pay count as contactless?

Yes — tapping your phone or watch at a physical terminal is mobile contactless. That's exactly what UOB Preferred Visa's 4 mpd rewards.

Does tapping my physical card earn the same bonus?

Not on UOB Preferred Visa — plastic taps earn base rate only; it must be your phone or watch. HSBC Revolution pays its bonus on both.

Do in-app wallet payments count?

No — paying inside an app with Apple Pay or Google Pay is online spend, not contactless, and it's excluded from some online bonuses too (notably Citi Rewards).
